California has launched a new AI-powered chatbot, Ask CAL FIRE, designed to provide wildfire resources and emergency information in 70 languages. Governor Gavin Newsom announced the initiative as part of Wildfire Preparedness Week, emphasizing the importance of technology in helping residents stay informed ahead of peak wildfire season.
The chatbot, available on CAL FIRE’s website, offers real-time emergency updates, fire prevention guidance, and answers to commonly asked questions. It also directs users to relevant pages for more detailed information and serves as a two-way tool, helping CAL FIRE understand what information Californians need most.
CAL FIRE has been recognized for its innovative use of AI, including a system that monitors over 1,000 cameras across the state for early wildfire detection. The agency has also expanded its aerial firefighting fleet, adding night-time capable Fire Hawk helicopters to improve wildfire response.
With California facing increasingly severe wildfire seasons, officials hope this chatbot will enhance public safety and preparedness by making critical information more accessible to all residents.
