It was inspiring to see the energy, teamwork, and technical skills of these young fire cadets from across France. Their commitment perfectly reflects the CTIF spirit of cooperation, learning, and international friendship.
From October 19 to 22, the city of Pornic, on France’s Atlantic coast, hosted the National CTIF Competition for Young Firefighters — a major qualifying event for the International Firefighting Competitions to be held in July 2026 in the Czech Republic.
Yesterday, I had the pleasure of attending in Pornic (France) the national CTIF youth team qualification event — a key step toward the International Firefighting Competitions to be held in the Czech Republic in 2026.
Text by Christophe Marshal, CTIF vice president
Bringing together nearly 200 young fire cadets and instructors from 13 French regional Fire and Rescue Services, this national final tested both the athletic and technical abilities of participants through a series of rigorous CTIF events. Over the course of several days, teams competed in obstacle runs, hose deployment drills, and precision maneuvers designed to simulate real-world firefighting challenges.
The event was organized under the auspices of the French Firefighters Federation (FNSPF) and the International Association of Fire and Rescue Services (CTIF), with strong support from local and regional fire services. The competition was not only a test of skill but also a celebration of teamwork, discipline, and camaraderie — values deeply rooted in the firefighting profession.
Lieutenant-Colonel Christophe Marchal, Vice-President of CTIF and Vice-President of the French Firefighters Federation, attended the competition to encourage the participants and reaffirm CTIF’s commitment to youth engagement.
“These young cadets represent the future of our profession,” he said. “Their energy, passion, and dedication embody the CTIF spirit of international friendship and cooperation.”
Throughout the event, the enthusiasm of the participants and the professionalism of their mentors were widely praised. Though only two teams will advance to the 2026 international games, every participant left Pornic with pride — having demonstrated the spirit of service and solidarity that defines the global firefighting community.
