Almost 30 firefighters dead during forest fire in China
At least 26 firefighters have died on the weekend while fighting a forest fire in southwest China, state Chinese media report.
Hundreds of firefighters were called in to the area after the fire started on Saturday night in Liangshan, located in the Sichuan province.
The wind suddenly turned during Sunday afternoon, and Command & Control of the Liangshan fire station lost contact with 30 of the commissioned rescue workers.
The authorities allegedly managed to make contact with two firefighters who confirmed that many of their colleagues had perished.
