New emergency response ten can generate it's own power battery free for small devices

A team of engineers has developed a lightweight “magnetoelastic tent” capable of generating electricity from wind, human movement, and even ambient sound, potentially offering a new way to power small sensors and portable devices without batteries.

The prototype, described by researchers at Nanyang Technological University (NTU) in Singapore, uses ultra‑thin layers of magnetoelastic material that produce electrical current when they bend or vibrate. When assembled into a tent‑like structure, the material can harvest energy from multiple environmental sources simultaneously.

In tests, the tent produced enough electricity to power LEDs, small sensors, and low‑energy electronics, even under weak airflow or low‑frequency vibrations. Researchers say the technology could support wearable devices, remote environmental monitors, and disaster‑zone sensors where conventional power sources are unavailable.

The team notes that the tent is waterproof, flexible, and inexpensive, making it suitable for deployment in harsh outdoor conditions. Future versions may be scaled up to support larger networks of sensors or integrated into clothing and equipment for continuous energy harvesting.
