CERN Fire and Rescue Service

CFRS

CERN’s Fire and Rescue Service (CFRS) is part of the  HSE Occupational Health and Safety and Environmental Protection unit, and, as part of its firefighting and rescue mission, is responsible for handling incidents and accidents of all types, throughout the CERN site, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. These interventions may require cooperation with the emergency services in the Host States (France and Switzerland) and the involvement of other internal CERN services. The Fire and Rescue Service also carries out other assistance and training activities.

The Fire and Rescue Service comprises professional firefighters who have mostly been with a detachment from the emergency services of various CERN Member States and thus constitutes a pool of professional and practical experience from all over the world.
