This ceremony was held in the presence of Mr. Louis Laugier, Prefect of Haut-Rhin, Mr. Frédéric Bierry, Chairman of the Board of Directors of SIS 68 and President of the European Community of Alsace, Mr. Eric Straumann, Mayor of Colmar, Colonel Hors Classe Patrice Gerber, Departmental Director and Head of the Haut-Rhin Fire Brigade, Lieutenant-Colonel Jean-Paul Bosland, President of the National Federation of Firefighters of France, numerous parliamentarians and elected officials from Alsace and personalities from the world of firefighters.
The ceremony was enhanced by the musical fanfare of the Altkirch Battalion firefighters and the presence of many young firefighters, former firefighters, executives without troops and firefighters from the Haut-Rhin department and from all over France.

A volunteer firefighter for more than 44 years, Lieutenant-Colonel Christophe Marchal has been the head of the volunteering and civic engagement group at the Haut-Rhin Fire and Rescue Service since 2011.
Very involved in favor of volunteering, he is the vice-president of the National Federation of Firefighters of France in charge of volunteering, European affairs and international relations and is the Deputy Chairman of the "Volunteer firefighters" commission.
A man of convictions, with multiple firefighting commitments, he is also a member of the board of directors of the Civil Protection Digital Agency (ANSC), a member of the editorial committee and of the executive committee of the French Institute for Civil Security. (IFRASEC), full member of the National Commission for Fire and Rescue Services (CNIS), full member of the National Council of Volunteer Firefighters (CNSPV) and volunteering expert for the Union for the Mediterranean (UfM).
He is also vice-president of the International Association of Fire and Rescue services (CTIF)since 2021, as well as vice-president of the regional union of firefighters of the Grand Est (GIRACAL) as well as of the departmental union of the Haut-Rhin firefighters.
After the solemn and very symbolic moment lived on the Place d'Armes, Inspector General Gregory ALLIONE praised the enormous work behind the scenes of Christophe Marchal for the firefighters of France and thanked his relatives, his family and his wife Claudia.
