The Firefighters’ Organisation of Ljubljana - Gasilska Zveza Ljubljana (GZL)
The Firefighters’ Organisation of Ljubljana (GZL) is an independent, non-profit, humanitarian, and non-political organisation that unites 35 volunteer fire brigades and 3 volunteer industrial fire brigades operating within the City Municipality of Ljubljana, the capital of Slovenia.
It brings together more than 4,700 members, including 1,132 operational firefighters. Founded in 1995, GZL forms a key part of the volunteer pillar of the public fire service in Slovenia’s capital and is a member of the Firefighters’ Association of Slovenia (GZS).
GZL’s core responsibilities include:
- Coordinated development and equipping of fire units;Delivery of basic and advanced firefighter training
- Fire prevention and public education initiatives;
- Cooperation with the Ljubljana Fire Brigade, the City of Ljubljana, and the national Civil Protection Administration.
- Key Strategic Focus AreasCommunity Protection – Promoting a comprehensive approach to safety through prevention and risk managment.
The organisation wishes to actively engage in the international firefighting and civil protection community and to contribute meaningfully to the global exchange of expertise, knowledge, and best practices.
As the coordinating body for 38 volunteer fire brigades in Slovenia’s capital, we recognise that effective fire and rescue services increasingly depend on cross-border collaboration, interoperability, and shared learning.
