Assembly in LEIPZIG with German Minister of Interior

On the occasion of the CTIF Delegates Assembly the German Minister of Interior Dr. Thomas de MAIZIERE welcomed the representatives of international fire organisations and emphasised the solidarity of fire fighters especially volunteers. He strictly objected EU civil protection forces. »We need not only reaction forces for civil protection but also prevention! Reaction and Prevention go hand in hand in fire services«.

CTIF President Walter EGGER from Switzerland demanded in his opening speech that fire services have be more involved in the decision making process of governmental bodies like the EU. EGGER regarding the CTIF participation in LEIPZIG: »Of course we are represented at the German Fire Fighters Day because CTIF is an important part of the European and international security network. The participation is not only a must moreover it is an honour.«

Reports of the Executive Committee and the commission chairmen were presented to the assembly and also revision of the Statutes and Internal Regulations have passed. A new ordinary member was welcomed: the United Arab Emirates were admitted to the community of international fire fighters. The CTIF thus represents 40 member countries from almost all continents and represents the interests of 300,000 professional and five million volunteer fire fighters.

CTIF wants to lobby for the interest of fire-fighters with institutions like the EU. »It has to be our aim to take part more strongly and capably in decision making processes in regarding fire-fighting«, was the definition of aims of Mr. EGGER. This is why CTIF has applied in cooperation with other organisations to participate in two EU projects. Also the activities of the new founded working group
