Meeting Threats: Fire and Rescue Services Strategies

All presentations made at the CTIF symposium 2008 are now available online.
The symposium organised by CTIF on 19 September welcomed speakers from the United States, Germany, Russia and the United Kingdom. They examined how preparations may be made to respond to avian influenza pandemics (Luther Fincher, USA) but also exchanged on the lessons learned from recent floods, which are a recognised threat faced by many countries due to climate change and increased land use (Peter Ladewig, Germany). The organisation of the Russian Ministry for Civil Defence, Emergencies and Elimination of Consequences of Natural Disasters (EMERCOM) was also introduced during the session (Aleksander Chuprijan, Russia). Finally, participants debated on how to increase the capacity and essential resilience of service communications centres – which are at the heart of the emergency response - to counter major national catastrophes (Dennis Davis, United Kingdom).
