On 22 September 2006, CTIF organised a successful symposium on hazardous materials. Most of the speakers’ presentations can be downloaded on this website. Successful “Hazmat” symposium On 22 September 2006, the CTIF Delegates Conference in Slovenia was followed by a well attended and highly anticipated CTIF symposium on hazardous materials, which included a series of expert presentations. Most of these presentations can be downloaded below. CTIF Hazardous Materials Commission chairman, Tore Eriksson from Sweden and Ove Brunnstrom, discussed methods that the fire and rescue services can use to reduce the risk zone when managing an incident involving liquefied poisonous or corrosive condensed gas. Milan Dubravac presented Hazmat activities and training in Slovenia. The lessons learned resulting from an incident involving damaged chlorine tanks, following a railway accident in Sweden in 2005 where 180 tons of chlorine were handled successfully, were presented by Bengt Wigtrand, Safety Manager at Azco Nobel, Sweden. A guideline for first responders concerning radioactive fallout was presented by Dr. Elena Buglova from the International Atomic Energy Agency, Russia. Mr Ben Janssen from the Netherlands then tackled the issue of storing large stockpiles of fireworks. Mr David Mc Clement from the Hertfordshire Fire & Rescue Service, England, ended the symposium with a presentation on the huge fire that occurred in an oil depot in Bruncefield, England, in December 2005.
