The CTIF Forest Fires commission and the Portuguese Fire Fighters Association organised a symposium in Sintra, Portugal, on 17 and 18 April 2008 to discuss the economical and environmental impact of forest fires. Mark Jones, chairman of the commission, focused mainly on the European experience in this field, thanks to the information collected from his colleagues from the commission. Over 20 countries participated, which is a great success for both of the organisers. Several Portuguese speakers from different organisations such as civil protection, fire brigades and wood processors were also invited.
