Two conferences were organized by the International Association of Fire and Rescue Services CTIF in October 2005.
"Private fire brigades” were at the core of the seminar organized by the CTIF History and Museums commission and the International Study Group for the History of the Fire Service and Fire Protection. On 14 October, the city of Saint Petersburg in Russia hosted an international conference dedicated to the “reorganization of fire and rescue services in CTIF member countries – current status, problems and prospects”. Speakers from the United States, the United Kingdom, Finland, Russia, Ireland, Hungary and Lithuania shared their experience with the audience.
