CTIF History, Museums & Documentation Commission

  

The CTIF Commission History, Museums and Documentation was founded in 1998 in order to:

  • contribute to an international definition of a "fire fighting museum"
  • elaborate a certification catalogue for fire brigade museums.
  • set recommendations to classify and assess fire fighting old timers.
  • lead and support the work of the International Working Group on the History of the Fire Service and Fire Prevention.
  • organise yearly international conferences with the International Working Group on the History of the Fire Service and Fire Prevention (examples of subjects: history of youth fire brigades and women in the fire service, the patron saints of fire fighters, fire services under authoritarian regimes, fire services and fire prevention in industries.
  • develop and manage CTIF’s documentation and archive in the CTIF’s international fire fighting documentation centre based in Pribyslav, Czech Republic.
  • examine any research proposals from the CTIF member countries and communicate the results of the research work to all CTIF member countries.

Who presides over the commission? Dieter Farrenkopf from Germany ist the CTIF History and Museums Commission’s current president.

Who are the commission’s member countries? Denmark, Germany, United Kingdom, France, Greece, The Netherlands, Austria, Poland, Rumania, Russia, Sweden, Switzerland, Slovakia, Slovenia, Czech Republic, Hungary.
Commission members do participate in meetings on a voluntary basis and can get support from their CTIF National Committee to cover travel and accomodation expenses.
