Every four years, more than 3.000 fire fighters from around the world attend the CTIF international fire brigades competitions. These competitions are aimed to volunteer and career fire fighters but also to the youth fire brigades.
They are organised by CTIF since 1961 and are the most spectacular sports event within the fire fighting world. Two CTIF commissions are in charge of following up the organisation of these competitions. Many countries have already organised these friendly sports meetings at international level. The competitions are awaited already long in advance, and the pre-selection tests are highly disputed.
The competitions are much more than demonstrations of technical skills and athletic prowess; they serve as the foundation for building a sense of fellowship among all participants. This relationships building is extremely important to fire fighters as individuals but also to the future of the fire fighting profession. Further, this has been one of the main objectives of CTIF - an objective that has been pursued for more than a century. For both the junior fire brigades and the volunteer and career fire brigades, these competitions represent the essence of the CTIF.
