The opening ceremony of the CTIF International Fire Brigades Competitions took place on Wednesday 20 July.
The event was highly colourful with all fire fighters and young fire fighters wearing their uniforms from their various countries. Men and women from all delegations came running into the stadium from both sides, cheered up by the crowd gathered in the tribunes. They were soon followed by the youth fire brigades who entered the stadium and waved their hands enthusiastically to the public before taking position behind the flag of their country. After pronouncing the competitions oath and after the welcoming words of the mayor of Varaždin, the CTIF competition flag joined the Croatian flag high up in the sky. A Croatian fire woman lit up the Olympic Flame, and CTIF president Walter Egger declared the CTIF International Fire Brigades Competitions officially opened.
